SAVE THE DATE GUIDE

WEDDING ETIQUETTE GUIDE - SAVE THE DATES

You’ve found the perfect place for your wedding day – woohoo! Now it’s time to start thinking about Save the Dates! These cards will give your guests a heads up so that they can mark their calendar for your wedding day (or weekend), and make arrangements for travel & childcare (if necessary).

Save the Date cards don’t need to have a ton of information on them – and we usually suggest keeping things pretty simple so as not to box yourself in with regard to specifics, as lots of things will likely change or become solidified during the planning process.

WHEN TO MAIL YOUR SAVE THE DATES

As a general rule, we suggest mailing Save the Dates 6 to 9 months before your wedding date. However, if your wedding is a destination (either for you or a majority of your guests), or if the date falls on a holiday weekend, you should send your Save the Dates in the 9-12 month range.

GUEST LIST INFO

Anyone who receives a Save the Date must receive an invitation. So, if you have a B-list, don’t send Save the Dates to anyone who you’re on the fence about.

WHAT TO INCLUDE ON YOUR SAVE THE DATES

As we mentioned above, your Save the Dates can (and should) be just the basic information for your wedding: your names, the date & the City, State (or country, for destination weddings). It’s also a good idea to have your wedding website up and running and include a link to it on your Save the Dates. Finally, we recommend having a line letting guests know that a formal invitation will follow – which will have all the details once they’re planned out.

Save the Dates are also a great way to use engagement photos – all of our Save the Dates come with an option to have your photo printed on either the front or the back of the card.
